How do I back up a Liquid Web Cloud Sites database?

In this article, we are going to show you how to back up your Liquid Web Cloud Sites database. For a general video walk-through for database addition, check out this tutorial video.

To back up your Liquid Web Cloud Sites database, you will need the following information:

  1. MySQL Database Name
  2. MySQL Username
  3. MySQL Password
  4. Database Management IP Address

Since we will get the database management IP address, we do not need to whitelist CodeGuard's IP addresses with our Cloud Site. Now we will go through the necessary steps to get this information. There are numbers throughout the walkthrough that correspond to the necessary information above.

Step 1: Login to Rackspace Cloud Sites Control Panel

First, we need to log into the Liquid Web control panel. You can get there by going to this URL: manage.liquidweb.com. Log in using your Liquid Web Cloud Sites credentials.

Step 2: Navigate To Your Databases

Begin by clicking the URL of the website that the database belongs to.

Click the 'Databases' dropdown.

Now we should select the database that we want to back up. Once you have copied down this database's name, click on it.

Step 3: Database Management IP Address

Since CodeGuard will be connecting to our database remotely, we want to copy down the Database Management IP Address. This will allow CodeGuard to successfully connect to our Cloud Site.

Step 4: MySQL Username and Password

Now that we have the Database Management IP Address, all we need now is to create a new MySQL username and password for our database. Click 'Create User'. Create the new user and enter a password. Keep note of these items for adding your database to CodeGuard.

Step 5: Activate Database in CodeGuard

Now that we have all of the necessary information, we can login to CodeGuard to add our database. Go ahead and login to your CodeGuard account: CodeGuard Login and choose the website which your database belongs to.

Once we have chosen the website, click the 'Add Database' link at the bottom of the screen.

Now we can test the connection to make sure that CodeGuard can make a connection to our database's IP address. Here you want to enter the Database Management IP Address. After you have done that, press the 'Test Connection' button.

We will now test the connection to that IP address. You will see if the connection was successful on two of our most common IP addresses. Once you see that the connection was successful, click 'Next Step'.

The following step is just to verify that you've properly whitelisted our IP addresses. As a Liquid Web customer, these IP addresses have already been whitelisted for you, so you can disregard this step. Click 'Next Step'.

We can now add the rest of our credentials. Once all of them have been entered, press 'Next Step'.

Here we will select the database name that we previously found in our Cloud Sites control panel.

That's it! Our database is now activated and we can follow along with the progress. CodeGuard will also send you an email once the activation is complete.
