In this article, we are going to show you how to backup your Media Temple Grid Services Database.
To backup your Media Temple Grid Services Database, you will need the following information:
Step 1: Log into Media Temple
First, we need to login to the Media Temple Account Center from this URL: http://ac.mediatemple.net.
Step 2: View the 'Grid Control Panel'
Click 'Admin' next to the domain name your database is associated with
Step 3: Select 'Manage Database'
Step 4: Click 'Users & Settings'
Step 5: Create a new MySQL user
a) Click 'Add User'
b) Create a new MySQL user. Note the username and password for later. The username includes the text before you enter the new username. In the below example, the full username is 'db204033_cguser', not just 'cguser'
c) Grant the user access to your database - Click 'Permissions'
d) Grant 'Read/Write' permissions and click 'Save'. It is important that the user has Read/Write permissions so that we are able to both back up and restore your database.
Step 6: Whitelist our IP addresses
Add the following IP addresses to the 'External Databases' section:
- codeguard.com - US region:
- 54.236.233.46
- 54.236.233.28
- 54.174.91.34
- 54.174.153.212
- 54.174.115.171
- de.codeguard.com - Germany region:
- 35.157.245.195
- 18.185.35.20
- uk.codeguard.com - United Kingdom region:
- 52.56.56.141
- 35.178.158.59
- fr.codeguard.com - France region:
- 52.47.143.35
- 52.47.91.37
This step is very important to ensure that our connection attempts are not blocked by Media Temple while trying to back up your databases.
Step 7: View your guide
Back in your Grid Control Panel click 'View Your Guide'
Step 8: Note your database's external hostname
Step 9: Activate Database in CodeGuard
a) Now that we've whitelisted the IP address and gathered the information we need, login to your CodeGuard account and select the website your database is associated with.
b) Click 'Add Database' at the bottom of the page
c) Test your connection by entering the external hostname and clicking 'Test Connection'
d) Check for firewalls. If either of the IP addresses listed on the next screen fails, make sure that you've properly whitelisted all of our IP addresses in Step 6. If they both pass, click 'Next Step'
e) Again, please make sure that all of the IP addresses listed have been whitelisted. It may seem like we're repeating ourselves, but we can't stress enough how important it is to whitelist all of our IP addresses. Whitelisting all our IP addresses ensures that we are able to connect to your database every time to take your backups. If you've confirmed that all IP addresses have been whitelisted by following the instructions in Step 6, click 'Next Step'
f) Enter your database credentials and click 'Next Step'
g) Select your database and click 'Add Database'
h) Success! You've now added your Media Temple Grid Service database! You can track your progress while your database is added. CodeGuard will send you an email once it's completed.
